Custom Stone was founded in 1980 by Tom Benner. Starting as a one man operation, with nothing but a pickup truck, a handful of masonry tools, and a determination to succeed. Tom poured his heart and soul into the company and set the bar very high when it came to his unique brand of craftsmanship. It wasn’t long before word began to spread of Tom’s elite skills as a stone mason in the Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh areas, and beyond. The company still strives for excellence on every project.
Custom Stone Legacy
Today, Custom Stone NC spans multiple generations, with Tom’s sons, Paul Benner and Daniel Benner filling out the starting lineup for the Custom Stone NC management team (pictured above). The core values of the company remain the same, and the benchmark of quality that Tom established in 1980 is still the standard for our stone installation guidelines today.
